I am not an expert on this at all but there is a new DXVK update, which sounds like it should fix pink flashing for good (see this reddit post).
Has anyone tried it? Any comments from people who understand this better than I do? :D
🚨🚨🚨 THIS IS NOT A DRILL🚨🚨🚨
The update is not officially out yet, but you can download it already if you have a GitHub account. My brother helped me set it up, you also need an up-to-date driver for your graphics card (otherwise Sims will not start, you will get an error message). My brother said the driver needs to come with a VK_EXT_robustness2 extension, but I have no idea what that means or how to check that, sooo…. just save your current DXVK files, so you can restore them in case anything goes wrong.
But: IT WORKS FOR ME. I loaded two households in a row with absolutely huge, cluttered mansions, both of these usually cause horrible pink flashing or straight up crash my game. But this time it worked! No crashing, no pink flashing, not even a little bit!
If you want to get it:
1. Make a GitHub account.
2. Download the artifact at the bottom of this page.
3. It comes with a x32 and an x64 version. Open the x32-folder and dump the contents into the installation path of your game. If you have been using DXVK before, simply overwrite the old files.
It did disable Reshade though, so I need to figure that out next.
Ok, so I tried this for a bit, I think I should test the game longer, but I didn’t get any pink flashing, so… this seems promising.
My game crashed once with shadows high, I did set them to medium and didn’t crash anymore. My game is still laggy and with shadows set to high I still get weird purpleish shadows off lot in lot view, but I don’t really now if those shadows have anything to do with pink flashing…
I hope this truly works.
